Hyperliquid Founder Considers Options Trading for Future Ventures

Jeff Yan, the founder of the decentralized perpetual contract trading platform Hyperliquid, recently shared insights during an interview on the Empire podcast at the DAS 2026 Asia Station. When asked about potential future projects, Yan expressed interest in exploring options trading, citing a growing demand among traders for such products. He noted that while perpetual contracts serve many users' needs, there remains a gap for those looking to express different market views.

Yan highlighted the potential for developing an options protocol, referencing HIP-4 as a promising framework that could incorporate features like spot trading, order books, and portfolio margining. He emphasized the importance of making options trading appealing to a broader audience, suggesting that the integration of perpetual contracts could provide effective hedging strategies for options traders. Despite the interest in options within the cryptocurrency sector, Yan remarked that similar products have yet to gain significant traction compared to their established counterparts in traditional finance.
