Japanese and South Korean Stock Markets Experience Significant Declines

On October 15, 2026, the Nikkei 225 index in Japan fell by 4.90%, closing down 3318.34 points at 64425.95 points. This decline reflects ongoing volatility in the Asian markets, which has raised concerns among investors.

In South Korea, the KOSPI index suffered an even steeper drop, closing down 454.54 points or 7.56%, at 5554.27 points. During the trading session, the KOSPI index experienced a decline of over 9%, prompting the activation of the circuit breaker mechanism for the tenth time this year.

In response to the market turmoil, South Korea's financial regulatory agency convened an emergency meeting in the afternoon. Following this meeting, the rate of decline in the stock market began to ease. Major companies such as SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics saw significant losses, with SK Hynix closing down 11.06% and Samsung Electronics down 9.48%.
