Kamino Approves Chainlink CCIP for Enhanced Cross-Chain Collateral in Lending

Kamino, a lending and yield protocol based on the Solana blockchain, has completed a security review of Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), determining it is robust enough to support cross-chain collateral risk. This validation allows assets that utilize CCIP to qualify for higher borrowing limits and improved loan-to-value (LTV) ratios on the Kamino platform, enhancing capital efficiency for users.

The endorsement, announced on October 20, 2026, indicates that assets transferred through CCIP can now be assigned elevated supply caps, enabling Kamino to accept a greater amount of these assets as collateral. The review emphasized CCIP's core security features, which include a reliable track record and built-in safety measures, ensuring a secure foundation for collateral originating from or moving across different blockchain networks.

This development coincides with the recent launch of CCIP 2.0, which introduced customization options for asset issuers, allowing them to implement additional verification steps and transfer policies on top of CCIP's standard security model. Kamino's integration of CCIP complements its existing use of Chainlink Data Streams and Proof of Reserve, which together facilitate borrowing against tokenized real-world assets while maintaining regulated custody of the underlying holdings.

The implications for decentralized finance (DeFi) lending are significant, as higher LTVs provide users with increased borrowing power per dollar deposited, while larger supply caps accommodate bigger positions. However, this also introduces greater risk, as elevated LTVs reduce the buffer before liquidation in the event of adverse price movements. Kamino's real-time monitoring and market controls are designed to mitigate these risks.
