Kodiak Sciences (KOD) Why AMD fueled the stock 180% Higher

Shares in biotechnology company Kodiak Sciences (KOD) rose over 170% on Monday after positive results from its AMD trial. Kodiak recently completed the Phase 3 DAYBREAK study in wet AMD (age-related macular degeneration) and reported significant results. Shares of Kodiak Sciences exploded from a prior close around the low $30s to finish near $87 on Monday. Shares corrected around 3% downward today.

Kodiak Sciences announced that Zenkuda and KSI-501, two experimental treatments for wet age-related macular degeneration, met their primary goal in a late-stage study. Zenkuda, in particular, demonstrated “a potential new standard-of-care profile,” delivering relief immediately after administration along with long-lasting therapeutic benefits.

Kodiak’s stock gains are reflective of the growing value of AI companies like Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Both stocks climbed on Monday, and KOD specifically is now up 15% this year. Kodiak Sciences pegs the global market for retinal vascular disease drugs at $15 billion. The biotech aims to capture share in an increasingly competitive landscape, as evidenced by the late-July approval of Outlook Therapeutics’ Lytenava for wet AMD.

Following the latest clinical results, Kodiak Sciences plans to file a Biologics License Application for Zenkuda in the fourth quarter—a formal request for regulatory approval to market the drug. If successful, Zenkuda would move from Kodiak Sciences’ longest-running pipeline fixture to its first commercial product.

Now, KOD is a pure catalyst battleground. UBS has planted a flag with a Buy rating on Kodiak Sciences and an $80 price target, arguing that Phase III wet AMD trials for tarcocimab and KSI‑501 are likely to be non‑inferior to Eylea — the current benchmark therapy. The kicker is dosing. If KOD’s drugs can stretch treatment intervals, the commercial narrative shifts from “me‑too” to “meaningfully more convenient,” which can support premium pricing and strong adoption.
