Ledger Appoints New Executive to Oversee Technology and Security Amid Rising AI Threats

On September 9, 2026, Ledger, a hardware wallet manufacturer based in Paris, appointed Oded Blatman as its chief information officer and chief security officer, consolidating two key leadership roles into one. This strategic move comes in response to a significant increase in cyber threats targeting the cryptocurrency industry, which has lost approximately $1.4 billion to hacks and exploits over the past year, according to Ledger's chief technology officer, Charles Guillemet.

Blatman, who previously held positions as CIO and CISO at Fireblocks, will now oversee a broad range of responsibilities at Ledger. His role encompasses cyber and infrastructure security, product security, physical security, enterprise risk management, and internal IT. This unified command structure aims to enhance the company's ability to combat increasingly sophisticated AI-driven attacks, which can identify and exploit vulnerabilities at a pace that outstrips traditional security measures.

In addition to the leadership change, Ledger has been proactive in addressing security concerns. The company introduced an AI security roadmap in April, which includes a forthcoming “Proof of Human” protocol designed to ensure that transactions are initiated by humans rather than AI agents. Recently, Ledger also launched Cerberus, an AI-powered system for continuous vulnerability detection, and the open-source Ledger Agent Stack. Furthermore, on September 7, Ledger and competitor Trezor jointly advocated for responsible vulnerability disclosure standards to improve security practices within the industry.
