MoneyGram Launches First Stablecoin-Powered Visa Card in Colombia

PANews, September 10 – According to The Block, 86-year-old global payment company MoneyGram has launched its first stablecoin-backed Visa card, which is being introduced first in the Colombian market. This new card marks MoneyGram's expansion in the stablecoin space from pure remittance services to everyday spending scenarios.

The company has been involved in stablecoin business since 2021, when it partnered with the Stellar Development Foundation to support "cash-to-USDC" and "USDC-to-cash" exchanges through its network. In June of this year, MoneyGram also launched its own dollar-pegged stablecoin, MGUSD, intended for use within its global network. The new MoneyGram card supports USDC at launch and plans to add support for MGUSD in the near future.
