NEAR Protocol Sees 16% Surge Amid Record Trading Activity
NEAR Protocol's native token experienced a significant increase of 16% over the weekend, driven by a surge in trading activity. On October 10, 2026, the token reached a peak of $6.00 on the Binance exchange before settling at approximately $5.64. This spike in price coincided with a record daily trading volume of around $3.54 billion, marking a 98% increase from previous levels.
Over the past month, NEAR has seen substantial growth, with its value rising by at least 83% and some estimates suggesting gains as high as 172%. This rally has propelled NEAR's market capitalization to approximately $7.2 billion, placing it back among the top 20 digital assets.
Several factors are contributing to this heightened demand for NEAR. The launch of the first U.S. spot NEAR exchange-traded fund (ETF) by Bitwise on September 29, 2026, has attracted nearly $58 million in inflows during its first week. Additionally, NEAR's cross-chain feature, NEAR Intents, has recorded over $31 billion in cumulative cross-chain volume, with September alone seeing a 72.9% increase in swap volume. Furthermore, a proposed governance change aims to reduce NEAR's maximum annual token issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over the next two years, which could further influence market dynamics.
