Risk of Price Manipulation Identified in PaperTrade Documentation
Crypto trader Rune has highlighted a potential vulnerability in the pricing mechanism of the PaperTrade platform, as detailed in its official documentation. The documentation indicates that attackers could exploit the Best Bid and Offer (BBO) from the Hyperliquid order book to manipulate prices, raising concerns about unresolved pathways for price manipulation and the effectiveness of current risk exposure controls and operational protections.
In a related development, Rune shared a tweet from a community user known as boblob, who reported that two wallets are suspected of exploiting the PaperTrade platform. These activities have reportedly caused fluctuations of approximately 10-20 basis points in the price of Ethereum (ETH) on the Hyperliquid platform, with trades amounting to around 20 million dollars.
Boblob emphasized the need for immediate fixes to the PaperTrade protocol, warning that ongoing issues could jeopardize the platform's long-term sustainability. The situation underscores the importance of robust security measures in cryptocurrency trading platforms to prevent manipulation and protect investors.
