Short-term Bitcoin Buyers Report 13% Profit as Market Stabilizes

Bitcoin's price has risen above $73,300, providing recent buyers with an average profit of approximately 13%. This increase has helped to mitigate panic selling among short-term holders, as they are now sitting on modest gains. The average cost basis for these investors, which reflects the price they paid for their Bitcoin, is clustered between $63,000 and $73,000, with the 3-6 month cohort averaging around $73,190.

Historically, the current profit margins are significantly lower than previous market peaks. For instance, at the height of the market in 2012, short-term holders enjoyed average profits of 232%, while in 2021, the figure was 150%. In contrast, the peak in 2025 saw profits of just 69%. This context highlights the current market's reset, as the same 13% profit now corresponds to a much lower price range compared to previous cycles.

The $73,300 price point is crucial as it is just above the cost basis for the 3-6 month holders. If Bitcoin maintains its position above this level, it may provide support for the market, as holders are likely to defend their breakeven point. Conversely, if the price falls below this range, it could lead to increased selling pressure, as trapped buyers may seek to exit their positions. The range between $63,000 and $73,000 is now a key area to monitor for potential market movements.
