Uranium Finance attack trial opens, prosecutors allege defendant exploited contract vulnerability to steal over $53 million

PANews reported on October 1, citing Law360, that the cryptocurrency theft case involving Uranium Finance has opened in the U.S. federal court in Manhattan. Prosecutors allege that Jonathan Spalletta, a cybersecurity consultant from Maryland, exploited a smart contract vulnerability in the protocol in 2021 to carry out attacks, the second of which transferred approximately $53.3 million from 26 liquidity pools and caused the protocol to cease operations. These claims are prosecutorial allegations and do not constitute a conviction.
