Stablecoin Card Spending Reaches Record $189 Million in Mid-September

Stablecoin card spending surged to a record $189 million during the week of September 14, 2026, reflecting a significant increase in consumer adoption of dollar-pegged tokens for everyday purchases. This trend has continued throughout the year, with weekly spending volumes surpassing $200 million multiple times. Notably, the weeks of August 14-20 and August 21-27 saw spending reach $281.7 million and $288 million, respectively, while monthly totals exceeded $1 billion in both July and August.

The majority of stablecoin transactions are processed through Visa's extensive network of over 130 linked card programs worldwide. In July, the stablecoins USDC and USDT accounted for approximately 84% of the transaction volume, with USDC representing about 58% and USDT around 26%. The average transaction size was approximately $86, indicating a robust consumer engagement with these digital currencies.

Several issuers have emerged as leaders in this space. RedotPay, based in Hong Kong, topped the volume charts in July with around $395 million, followed by EtherFi with approximately $100 million and KAST with about $90 million. These three companies collectively represented around 77% of the total tracked card activity, with RedotPay focusing on users in Asia and emerging markets, while EtherFi and KAST target users in various regions, including Latin America and Europe.

The rise in stablecoin spending is attributed to improved on-chain settlement across networks such as Arbitrum, Solana, and Base, which has reduced the friction and costs associated with converting stablecoins into usable card balances. As these systems continue to evolve, the trend of increasing stablecoin adoption for everyday transactions is expected to persist.
