Stablecoin Payments Surge by 45% to $482 Billion in Q3 2026

The blockchain data platform Allium has reported a significant increase in stablecoin payments, which rose by 45% to reach $482 billion in the third quarter of 2026. This growth is notable against a backdrop of only a 0.4% increase in stablecoin supply during the same period. The number of transactions surged by 71% to over 1.04 billion, while the average transaction amount decreased from $544 to $462, indicating a shift in payment dynamics.

In September alone, stablecoin payments hit a monthly high of $72 billion, marking a 51% year-on-year increase. As of the end of September, the total stablecoin supply stood at $305 billion, reflecting minimal growth since the start of the year. Major issuers such as Tether, Circle, and Ethena experienced declines in supply, while other issuers collectively increased their supply by $6.9 billion, with the number of issuers holding over $1 billion rising from 11 to 15.

Allium's report also highlighted that the adjusted transaction volume for stablecoins from January to September grew by 48% to $24 trillion, with payments constituting about 20% of this total. Notably, Tron accounted for approximately two-thirds of payment value, with USDT representing 84% of the transactions. Additionally, the number of proxy payment transactions doubled to 68.3 million, although the total amount decreased to $3.7 million. In contrast, spending via stablecoin cards saw a tenfold increase, reaching $3.9 billion.
