Sui Collaborates with OpenAssets to Enhance Tokenized Asset Standards

On October 1, 2026, the Sui Foundation and Mysten Labs announced a partnership with OpenAssets to develop the Open Tokenized Asset Standard (OTAS) within the Sui blockchain ecosystem. This initiative aims to create a unified framework for tokenized assets, addressing the fragmentation that occurs when assets are managed across different, incompatible ledgers.

OTAS is an open-source framework designed to standardize the interfaces that tokenized assets rely on, covering aspects such as identity, compliance, asset metadata, and settlement. By implementing this standard, Sui and OpenAssets hope to enable portable compliance records and ownership histories, allowing asset documentation to move seamlessly with the asset itself, rather than being confined to a single network.

The collaboration is part of Sui's recent membership in the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust, which was formalized on September 24, 2026. This membership enhances Sui's role in the broader effort to establish industry standards, alongside notable entities like Swift and Wells Fargo. Sui has previously developed its own tokenization tools, including modules for tokenized assets and a Permissioned Asset Standard, which align with the goals of OTAS by promoting programmable compliance and fractional ownership.
