Zombie CryptoPunk #3609 Sells for $875,000 on GONDI
On October 1, 2026, Zombie CryptoPunk #3609 was sold for 875,000 USDC through GONDI, an NFT liquidity protocol. This sale marks the largest transaction for a CryptoPunk since Ape Punk #1021 sold for $2.58 million in August 2025. The sale is notable not only for its price but also because the Punk was sold while still serving as collateral for an active loan of 365,000 USDC, which was settled in the same transaction.
The unique structure of GONDI allows for the simultaneous sale and loan repayment, meaning the seller did not need to find additional funds to unlock the NFT before selling. The buyer's payment automatically covered the outstanding loan, streamlining the process of transferring ownership. GONDI has been operational since 2023 and has facilitated over 3,000 loans totaling $300 million in volume, with $100 million currently locked in the protocol.
CryptoPunk #3609 is one of only 88 Zombie variants in the 10,000-piece CryptoPunks collection, featuring distinct traits such as Earring and Do-rag. Despite the sale price being lower than its previous sale in May 2025 for approximately $1.09 million, the transaction highlights the established “zombie premium” associated with these rare NFTs. The sale also serves as a reminder of the volatility in the NFT market, where prices can fluctuate significantly over time.
