Wells Fargo Negotiates with Kraken's Parent Company for Crypto Liquidity

Wells Fargo is currently in discussions with Payward, the parent company of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, to establish a partnership for providing liquidity in digital asset trading. The negotiations are ongoing, and while both parties have not publicly commented on the matter, sources familiar with the talks indicate that an agreement may not be finalized.

Payward, based in Wyoming, would potentially supply liquidity that could facilitate access to cryptocurrency trading for banks and institutional investors. This arrangement highlights the role of cryptocurrency exchanges as intermediaries that connect traditional financial institutions with digital asset markets.

In a related development, Wells Fargo previously acted as the exclusive capital markets advisor for Nasdaq, which recently announced a $100 million investment in Payward. This investment aims to enhance collaboration in areas such as tokenized stocks and market surveillance. Additionally, Payward has been exploring partnerships with custodian bank BNY for financial infrastructure collaboration.
