ASML Reports Record Q3 Sales but Warns of Supply Shortages in 2027 and 2028

ASML Holding, a Dutch lithography equipment manufacturer based in Veldhoven, reported record third-quarter sales of €11.7 billion for the period from July to September 2026. This figure marks an increase from €9.3 billion in the previous quarter and is within the company's guidance range of €11 billion to €12 billion. The company also noted a gross margin of 57.5%, up from 54.0%, and a net income of €5.0 billion, significantly higher than €2.9 billion reported in Q2.

Despite the strong financial performance, ASML's Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet indicated that the company's planned manufacturing capacity for 2027 and 2028 will not meet the anticipated customer demand. This shortfall is attributed to the ongoing expansion of spending by chipmakers in response to the growing needs of artificial intelligence technology. Customers are increasingly looking to place orders as far out as 2029 and 2030, prompting ASML to explore options to enhance its 2028 capacity beyond the previously announced 30% increase.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, ASML expects sales to range between €14.2 billion and €15.2 billion, maintaining a gross margin around 57%. The company has also raised its full-year sales forecast for 2026 to between €44 billion and €45 billion, reflecting a robust demand for its products. Additionally, ASML repurchased approximately €4.1 billion of its own shares during the quarter and announced an interim dividend of €1.88 per share, scheduled for payment on November 4.
