Bond Strategist Warns of Major Selloff if U.S. Treasury Yields Reach 6%

Harley Bassman, a veteran bond strategist, has issued a warning regarding potential turmoil in the U.S. Treasury market. He cautions that if the yield on 20-year U.S. Treasuries surpasses 6%, it could trigger a significant selloff, resulting in selling pressure equivalent to $110 billion in bond issuance. Currently, the 20-year Treasury yield is approximately 5.6%.

Bassman highlights that the risks associated with negative convexity have escalated to levels not seen since 2007. This situation could exacerbate the selloff in Treasuries, leading to a 'nightmare scenario' for investors. The implications of such a yield increase could have far-reaching effects on the broader financial markets.
