Iran's Navy Chief Issues Warning to US Ships in Hormuz Strait

The chief of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has issued a stark warning regarding US warships approaching the Strait of Hormuz, stating that they could be targeted and sunk. This statement, reported by the Iranian news agency Fars, escalates tensions in a region critical for global shipping routes.

In the wake of these threats, traders on the Kalshi exchange have assessed the likelihood of a return to normal shipping traffic in the region. They currently estimate only a 44% chance of normalization before October 2027, with the odds increasing slightly to 53% by January 2028. This reflects ongoing concerns about maritime security and the potential for conflict in the strategically vital waterway.
