Bundesbank President Warns of Inflation Risks Due to Low Gas Storage in Germany

Joachim Nagel, the President of the Bundesbank, has expressed concern over Germany's insufficient natural gas storage levels, which are currently at approximately 59%. This figure marks the lowest seasonal level recorded since 2009 and falls significantly below the European Union average of 72%.

Nagel cautioned that the slow pace of replenishing gas inventories could exacerbate inflation risks as the winter season approaches. He highlighted that the euro-area inflation outlook is dominated by upward risks, particularly with gas prices remaining vulnerable to fluctuations.

The warning comes at a critical time as Germany navigates energy supply challenges, emphasizing the need for urgent action to bolster gas reserves ahead of the colder months.
