U.S. Dollar Strengthens as Stock Futures Decline Ahead of Key Services Data

The U.S. dollar has opened the North American trading week on a strong note, gaining against six of the seven major currencies, with the Australian dollar being the only exception. The dollar's strength is reflected in its performance against the New Zealand dollar, euro, Swiss franc, Japanese yen, British pound, and Canadian dollar. The currency is trading at 0.5587 against the New Zealand dollar, 1.1204 against the euro, and 158.21 against the Japanese yen, among others. Meanwhile, U.S. stock futures indicate a lower opening, with the Dow industrial average expected to drop by 77 points, the S&P 500 down by 6 points, and the Nasdaq down by 66 points.

Investors are awaiting significant economic data from the U.S. services sector, with the final S&P Global services PMI scheduled for release at 9:45 a.m. ET, followed by the ISM services report at 10 a.m. ET. These reports are anticipated to provide insights into employment conditions, new orders, and pricing pressures, which could influence market expectations regarding growth and inflation.

In the oil market, developments in the Middle East are impacting supply outlooks. While recovering exports are providing some relief, threats to energy infrastructure remain a concern. Recent claims of attacks on Saudi Aramco sites by Houthi forces have not yet resulted in confirmed damage or production losses. OPEC+ has maintained its November production targets, but actual production levels remain significantly below pre-war figures due to ongoing conflicts. Traders are closely monitoring these dynamics as they could affect inflation and central bank policies.
