U.S. Services Sector PMI Expected to Decline Amid Rising Price Pressures

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) is forecasting a slight decrease in the Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for September, with an expected reading of 55.0, down from 55.4 in August. This decline suggests a modest easing in the growth of the services sector in the United States.

Employment figures within the services sector are anticipated to improve, with the index projected to rise to 48.8 from 47.8. However, new orders are expected to decrease slightly to 60.3 from 60.9, indicating a potential slowdown in demand.

A significant concern highlighted in the upcoming report is inflation, particularly in service prices. The Prices Paid index is expected to reach a new 50-month high of 73.3, up from 72.6, signaling renewed price pressures within the sector. This trend may have implications for overall economic conditions as inflation continues to be a critical factor for policymakers.
