Tesla (TSLA) Stock Dips as Roadster Event and Q3 Delivery Numbers Loom

      Key Highlights

      • Tesla shares dropped 1.4% to $366.76 during early Monday session, marking a 17% decline year to date.
      • The electric vehicle maker plans to reveal its updated Roadster on Thursday, October 1, with Q3 delivery figures due Friday.
      • Analyst consensus points to approximately 463,000 vehicle sales in Q3, representing a decline from last year’s 497,000 units.
      • Cantor Fitzgerald maintained its Overweight stance with a $485 target, highlighting autonomous trucking opportunities.
      • Both StoneX and UBS published delivery forecasts at or below market expectations before the upcoming report.

Shares of Tesla declined during Monday’s morning session, shedding 1.4% to reach $366.76 as market participants prepared for an eventful week. The electric vehicle manufacturer’s stock has retreated 17% since the beginning of the year and is down 16% over a trailing 12-month period.

Broader equity indices also retreated, with both the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average declining approximately 0.5%. Escalating crude oil prices contributed to widespread market weakness.

Two significant catalysts await Tesla investors this week. The automaker will showcase the newest iteration of its Roadster sports car on Thursday, October 1, with its third-quarter vehicle delivery data scheduled for release the following day.

      Analyst Projections for Third-Quarter Deliveries

The Street anticipates Tesla will disclose approximately 463,000 vehicle deliveries for the third quarter. This figure would represent a decline from the roughly 497,000 units delivered during the corresponding period in the previous year.

The year-ago quarter benefited from heightened demand as customers rushed to qualify for the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit before it lapsed in September. This dynamic creates a challenging year-over-year comparison.

StoneX analyst Mickey Legg forecasts deliveries around 446,500 units, representing a 7% sequential decline and a 10% year-over-year decrease. This projection falls short of the FactSet consensus estimate.

Even with the anticipated shortfall, Legg maintains a Buy recommendation with a $475 price objective. Cantor Fitzgerald similarly reaffirmed its Overweight rating, establishing a $485 target.

Cantor’s delivery projection is more conservative, calling for 421,758 units versus a Visible Alpha consensus of 448,679. UBS positioned itself at the upper range, predicting 470,000 deliveries while maintaining a Neutral rating and $385 price target.

      Shifting Investment Focus

Quarterly delivery figures no longer drive Tesla’s stock performance as dramatically as in previous years. Market attention has pivoted toward the company’s artificial intelligence initiatives, specifically its robotaxi deployment and Optimus humanoid robot development.

Tesla initiated its robotaxi service in Austin during June 2025, though scaling the program has progressed gradually. The forthcoming Roadster presentation is attracting more investor interest than the delivery statistics at present.

Cantor Fitzgerald also provided commentary on Tesla’s commercial trucking operations. The firm noted Tesla is currently manufacturing as many as 1,000 Semi Trucks weekly, though the Semi will constitute a minor portion of total production through year’s end.

Tesla has identified the domestic truck driver shortage as a catalyst for autonomous trucking demand, a segment it intends to pursue. However, management has emphasized that robotaxi and Cybercab expansion remains the primary focus.

Cantor projects third-quarter energy storage deployments at 17.1 GWh based on Visible Alpha consensus, compared to its internal estimate of 15 GWh. This division has emerged as another important metric investors monitor beyond automotive sales.

From a regulatory perspective, the European Union delayed its vote regarding Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology, with a ruling now anticipated in December. The system has secured approval from Dutch regulator RDW and received conditional clearance in the Czech Republic.

Tesla additionally disclosed intentions to increase compensation by 4% to 5% at its Berlin-Brandenburg manufacturing facility in Germany, effective October 1. This adjustment coincides with the Roadster unveiling.
