Middle East Crude Exports Near Prewar Levels Amid Ongoing Supply Challenges

Middle East crude exports have rebounded significantly, reaching approximately 17.5 million barrels per day, which is 98% of prewar levels, according to data from JPMorgan. This recovery in exports indicates a strong resurgence in the region's oil production capabilities following previous disruptions.

Producers in the Middle East are increasingly utilizing alternative routes to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, with around 40% of September's crude exports avoiding this critical shipping lane through the use of alternative pipelines, ports, and ship-to-ship transfers. This shift highlights the industry's adaptability in response to geopolitical challenges.

Despite the overall recovery in crude exports, the situation remains uneven, particularly for refined products. Exports of diesel, gasoline, and jet fuel are still only at about 50% of normal levels, which poses ongoing vulnerabilities to global fuel supplies.
