Cerebras Systems (CBRS) Stock Surges 7% Following Gimlet Labs AI Infrastructure Deal

      Key Takeaways

      • Shares of Cerebras Systems (CBRS) surged more than 7% on Tuesday, reaching approximately $211.
      • The advance came after announcing a collaboration with Gimlet Labs for AI inference infrastructure deployment.
      • CBRS is approaching a critical $219 resistance level within its established trading channel since July’s end.
      • Analysts maintain a “Moderate Buy” consensus with price targets averaging around $300.
      • Company executives, including CEO and CTO, have executed significant share sales in recent periods.

Cerebras Systems (CBRS) shares advanced 7% during Tuesday’s session, hovering around $211 after briefly surpassing the $210 mark intraday. This momentum extends a rally that began Monday and brings the stock closer to a resistance zone it has encountered multiple times since July’s conclusion.

The upward movement coincides with an announcement that Cerebras will provide its wafer-scale engine technology to Gimlet Labs, an emerging cloud infrastructure provider. This collaboration aims to deliver exceptional AI inference performance reaching speeds of 3,000 tokens per second.

Technical Analysis Shows CBRS Approaching Pivotal Resistance

For the past two months, Cerebras shares have oscillated within a defined channel, with support established near $167 and resistance forming around $260. The lower boundary has proven resilient through three distinct tests since July’s final weeks.

The upper boundary has repelled two breakout attempts, with each reversal occurring within days. Positioned centrally within this range is the $219 level, a price point that has previously served as an inflection point.

Currently, CBRS trades above both its 20-day and 50-day exponential moving averages, suggesting the present uptrend carries technical momentum rather than representing an isolated surge.

Should shares penetrate the $219 threshold, a challenge of the $260 upper boundary becomes increasingly probable. Historical volatility patterns indicate CBRS could reach that zone swiftly.

However, previous encounters with the $260 level warrant vigilance. Both earlier approaches to this ceiling resulted in rapid retreats rather than sustained breakouts.

      Understanding the Gimlet Labs Collaboration

Gimlet Labs plans to integrate its inference platform with Cerebras‘ specialized computing hardware. The partnership anticipates launching its initial data center installation within this calendar year.

Reports indicate the agreement encompasses a prospective 100-megawatt client commitment, signaling Cerebras’ expansion beyond its core AI training applications into inference workloads.

Analyst sentiment toward Cerebras remains predominantly optimistic. The stock holds a “Moderate Buy” consensus recommendation with an average analyst target of $299.90.

Craig Hallum and TD Cowen initiated bullish coverage in June, establishing price objectives of $325 and $275 respectively. Citigroup adjusted its target downward from $340 to $320 in August while maintaining its buy stance.

The company has encountered recent challenges. Cerebras reported an August quarterly loss of $2.98 per share, significantly exceeding the anticipated $0.21 deficit projected by analysts.

Quarterly revenue reached $209.87 million, representing a 74% year-over-year increase. Despite impressive revenue expansion, shares declined following the earnings disclosure.

Executive stock disposals have garnered investor notice. CEO Andrew Feldman divested 237,559 shares in August at an average of $199.27, generating proceeds exceeding $47 million.

CTO Sean Lie executed a sale of 120,000 shares valued at approximately $25.1 million through a predetermined trading arrangement. COO Dhiraj Mallick disposed of shares totaling $8.6 million during the same period.

Collectively, company insiders sold over 1.4 million shares last quarter, representing nearly $300 million in aggregate value. Despite this activity, several institutional investors established new CBRS positions during Q2, including Silicon Valley Capital Partners and IFP Advisors.

The 50-day moving average for Cerebras shares currently stands at $203.85. The company maintains a minimal debt-to-equity ratio of 0.02, complemented by a robust current ratio of 5.82.
