US GDP Growth Revised Upward to 2.2% for Q2 2026

The United States' real gross domestic product (GDP) for the second quarter of 2026 has been revised upward to an annualized growth rate of 2.2%, surpassing the initial estimate of 1.5%. This revision, reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, indicates stronger economic performance than previously anticipated, with real final sales rising by 2.8% and consumer spending increasing by 3.8%.

The inflation measures accompanying the GDP report showed a slight easing, with the GDP deflator decreasing to 6.1%, lower than the expected 6.4%. Core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) prices rose by 3.3%, also below the forecast of 3.6%. These adjustments suggest that while the economy is growing, inflationary pressures may be less severe than earlier estimates indicated.

The stronger economic growth could provide the Federal Reserve with more flexibility in its monetary policy, although the softer inflation figures may temper any aggressive policy moves. The report presents mixed signals for traders, as robust growth typically supports the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields, while lower inflation could have the opposite effect, potentially benefiting equity markets.
