ECB Official Comments on Inflation Outlook and Energy Costs

Gabriel Makhlouf, a member of the European Central Bank (ECB), stated that the bank is currently not observing any second-round effects on inflation. Speaking on RTE Radio, he emphasized that while the ECB is monitoring the situation closely, there are no immediate signs that rising energy costs are translating into broader inflationary pressures.

However, Makhlouf warned that if energy prices continue to escalate and begin to impact other sectors, the ECB may need to take action. He expressed discomfort with the ECB's inflation outlook, particularly if projections exceed 3%. This statement reflects ongoing concerns about the potential impact of energy costs on the European economy and inflation dynamics.
