      Key Takeaways

      • Filtronic shares surged up to 14% following the announcement of a record-breaking $68.1 million contract from SpaceX.
      • The contract covers Cerus E-band gallium nitride amplifiers, with most deliveries scheduled for fiscal year 2028.
      • This represents Filtronic’s biggest SpaceX contract to date, surpassing a previous $62.5 million agreement from 2025.
      • Cavendish Securities maintained its “buy” recommendation with a 290p target price.
      • According to Cavendish, firm orders now account for more than 90% of Filtronic’s anticipated FY2028 revenues.

Shares of Filtronic experienced a significant rally on Thursday, surging as high as 14% to reach an intraday peak of 270p. The sharp upward movement followed the company’s announcement of a record-setting $68.1 million follow-on contract with SpaceX.

The contract involves Filtronic’s Cerus E-band gallium nitride solid-state power amplifier systems. This marks the most substantial individual agreement SpaceX has awarded to the company in their business relationship.

The new contract follows a $62.5 million purchase order placed in 2025 for identical technology. Combined, these agreements demonstrate an expanding commercial partnership between Filtronic and Elon Musk’s aerospace manufacturer.

The bulk of deliveries under this new arrangement are scheduled to occur throughout Filtronic’s fiscal year 2028. Management indicated that the contract reinforces existing FY2028 projections rather than prompting upward revisions.

      Contract Specifications

The power amplifiers leverage Filtronic’s gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology. According to the company, GaN delivers superior power density, enhanced efficiency, and better heat dissipation compared to legacy gallium arsenide alternatives.

These components are deployed in terrestrial gateway stations supporting SpaceX’s Starlink satellite constellation. Starlink operates through an extensive network of low Earth orbit satellites providing global broadband connectivity.

Filtronic manufactures advanced radio frequency components serving aerospace, military, and telecommunications infrastructure markets. SpaceX has emerged as a critical customer over recent years.

Investment firm Cavendish Securities reaffirmed its “buy” recommendation following the contract announcement. The firm maintained its existing 290p share price target without adjustment.

Cavendish highlighted that confirmed orders now represent over 90% of anticipated FY2028 turnover. This exceptional order book visibility is notable for a company of Filtronic’s scale.

      Analyst Projections Remain Unchanged

The brokerage kept its financial estimates unchanged after the disclosure. Revenue projections for FY2028 remain at £75 million.

Adjusted EBITDA is forecast to reach £17 million for the same period. Cavendish anticipates continued SpaceX infrastructure investment extending well past 2028.

The firm also highlighted additional growth opportunities for Filtronic’s GaN platform. These include expansion into other satellite communication providers and military sector applications.

Filtronic has delivered consecutive years of revenue growth coupled with margin improvement. Operational cash flow has remained consistent, providing financial flexibility for expansion initiatives.

However, certain risks persist. Recent revenue volatility, compressed margins during certain periods, and fluctuating free cash flow highlight the company’s sensitivity to major contract timing.

Year-to-date, Filtronic shares have appreciated approximately 35%. Daily trading volume averages around 1.4 million shares.

Technical indicators currently flash a “buy” signal for the stock. Filtronic’s market capitalization stands at roughly £519.1 million based on recent valuations.

The $68.1 million contract represents Filtronic’s largest SpaceX agreement on record, announced Thursday alongside Cavendish’s unchanged 290p price objective.
