JPMorgan Launches JPM Coin on Ethereum Mainnet

JPMorgan Chase has introduced its US dollar deposit token, JPM Coin (ticker JPMD), to the Ethereum mainnet, providing approved institutional clients with a new public network for dollar transactions. This development was reported on October 19, 2026, by Bloomberg and acknowledged by the Ethereum Foundation. Previously, JPMD had been operating on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum layer-2 network, since November 2025, which remains active.

JPMD functions as a deposit token, with each unit representing one US dollar held at JPMorgan, distinguishing it from stablecoins like USDC. This allows for near-instantaneous transactions outside traditional banking hours, enhancing operational efficiency. Despite the higher transaction costs typically associated with the Ethereum mainnet compared to Base, JPMorgan's blockchain unit, Kinexys, opted for Ethereum due to its existing liquidity and tokenized assets, facilitating seamless trades and payments within the same network.

While the launch signifies a step forward for Ethereum's financial infrastructure, it does not currently indicate increased demand for ether. JPMorgan has not disclosed specific details regarding the volume of JPMD on Ethereum or its expected activity levels. The impact on ether's market remains uncertain, as the adoption of the network does not equate to direct purchases of the cryptocurrency. Future developments, including the potential integration of JPM Coin with the Canton Network, may further influence the dynamics of JPMorgan's blockchain operations.
