Solana (SOL) Surges Past $120 Milestone Driven by ETF Activity and Technical Upgrades

      Key Highlights

      • SOL reached $120.86 on September 25, marking its first journey beyond $120 since late January.
      • The token has doubled in value from its June 2026 bottom around $60.39, representing gains exceeding 100%.
      • Spot Solana ETFs in the United States recorded $32.81 million in net inflows, bringing aggregate holdings to approximately $1.81 billion.
      • Open interest in SOL futures expanded to $7.49 billion, marking a roughly 14% increase since the start of September.
      • The Alpenglow protocol enhancement, designed to achieve 150-millisecond finality, has been deployed across both public testing environments.

On September 25, Solana’s native token pushed through the $120 barrier, peaking at $120.86. The cryptocurrency hadn’t touched this price point since January 29 of this year.

During the 24-hour trading window, SOL registered a 3.56% advance. The seven-day performance showed a 7.61% increase, based on CoinGecko tracking data.

Comparable large-cap digital assets showed more modest movement during this timeframe. Bitcoin hovered around $83,800, Ethereum remained in the vicinity of $2,687, while XRP maintained a position near $1.57. The aggregate cryptocurrency market capitalization stood close to $2.97 trillion, experiencing a minor decline throughout the day.

      Recovery From June’s Bottom

The token bottomed at $60.39 during June 2026. At the current level of $120.86, SOL has delivered returns exceeding 100% from that nadir.

The recovery unfolded in measured increments. SOL advanced from approximately $97 during mid-September to surpass $112 by the 18th of the month. August delivered a substantial 41.5% monthly gain, establishing momentum that carried into September.

Market commentator The Kobeissi Letter highlighted the milestone on X, noting that Solana crossed $120 for the first time since the end of January and has now rallied more than 100% from the year’s lowest point, observing that “the crypto rally continues to broaden out.”

This steady progression, rather than a sudden spike, indicates the former $120 resistance zone could potentially function as near-term support going forward.

      Institutional Investment and Derivatives Expansion

American spot Solana exchange-traded funds registered $32.81 million in net capital inflows during September 24, the latest complete trading day. Bitwise’s Solana Staking ETF (BSOL) accounted for $27.97 million of that figure, while Fidelity’s FSOL contributed an additional $4.84 million.

Total assets under management across these investment vehicles approached $1.81 billion, according to SoSoValue metrics. Cumulative historical inflows for all Solana ETFs have now accumulated to $1.52 billion.

Open interest in Solana futures contracts climbed to $7.49 billion, representing an increase from approximately $6.57 billion recorded in early September—a growth rate near 14%. Daily futures trading volume surged to $11.76 billion across a 24-hour span, compared with $9.38 billion earlier this month.

CoinGlass data showed approximately $21.43 million in forced liquidations during the same one-day period.

From a technical analysis perspective, the relative strength index currently registers at 61, while the MACD indicator shows a positive reading around 1.34. Both metrics suggest ongoing bullish momentum in the short term. Market participants are monitoring the $122 to $123 zone as immediate resistance, with $130 emerging as the subsequent objective should that level be breached.

Analyst Master of Crypto presented an extended outlook on X, identifying approximately 703 days of accumulation followed by roughly 230 days of consolidation, suggesting that expansion phase is now underway, with a long-term price target of $500.

Protocol Enhancement Deployed to Testing Environments

In parallel developments, Solana’s Alpenglow protocol upgrade was activated on its second public testing network this week. The enhancement aims to reduce transaction finality from the current approximately 12.8 seconds to around 150 milliseconds.

Anza, the organization responsible for developing Solana’s core infrastructure, confirmed the devnet activation on September 25, following the testnet’s successful migration one day earlier. The Solana Foundation’s official upgrade tracker currently displays Alpenglow as operational across both testing environments.

The devnet serves as a sandbox where developers can experiment with applications using valueless tokens, whereas the testnet provides a staging ground for evaluating network software and validator capabilities under simulated stress conditions prior to mainnet deployment.
