Aave (AAVE) Price Surges as Tokenized Equity Collateral Launches on Base

      Key Highlights

      • Aave introduced an Equities Hub on Base, enabling seven tokenized stocks from Coinbase to serve as collateral for USDC borrowing.
      • The AAVE token reached $146-$147, marking a 13% weekly gain and 25% monthly increase.
      • Supported assets include tokenized versions of Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla equities.
      • Borrowing limits are capped at $21 million, with total collateral restricted to $29 million.
      • Access is limited to qualified users outside U.S. jurisdiction.

Aave has unveiled a groundbreaking lending facility on Base that allows participants to secure USDC loans using seven tokenized equities from Coinbase as backing. This development catalyzed a 7% surge in AAVE’s market value, with the token hovering between $146 and $147 during recent trading.

Dubbed the Equities Hub, this innovative market operates on Aave V4 infrastructure and supports tokenized representations of shares from Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.

Participants can pledge these digital equity tokens as collateral to access USDC liquidity. This mechanism allows holders to maintain their stock market exposure while simultaneously unlocking dollar-denominated borrowing power.

The tokens originate from Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd., with underlying shares custodied by Alpaca Securities in segregated accounts. This structure provides token holders with legitimate claims on actual equity positions rather than merely synthetic price exposure.

      Operational Framework of the Market

USDC represents the exclusive borrowable asset within this ecosystem. Stock tokens themselves cannot be borrowed, nor can participants use one equity token to secure loans against another.

Individual collateral ratios vary by asset. Microsoft commands the highest loan-to-value ratio at 79%, whereas Meta and Tesla offer more conservative 65% thresholds. Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, and Nvidia feature intermediate ratios.

The platform imposes a $32 million ceiling on USDC supply capacity and restricts total borrowing to $21 million. Risk assessment firm LlamaRisk determined the aggregate stock collateral limit at approximately $29 million.

Chainlink oracles deliver pricing data for these tokenized securities. The price feeds operate on a 24/5 schedule aligned with traditional equity market hours, maintaining static values during weekends and market holidays.

Despite oracle limitations, the lending platform functions continuously. Users maintain round-the-clock ability to deposit, borrow, repay, and withdraw, though collateral valuations refresh exclusively during standard trading sessions.

      Geographic Restrictions and Future Expansion

U.S.-based investors cannot access these tokenized equity products. Coinbase distributes them via an Abu Dhabi entity, restricting availability to verified non-U.S. participants only.

Antonio García-Martínez, Base’s Growth Director, clarified that qualified international customers can utilize these tokens for USDC borrowing, while any user can supply USDC to generate yield.

Aave Labs CEO Stani Kulechov highlighted the functional evolution these instruments represent. “Previously, a tokenized stock served merely as a holding or trading vehicle. Now it functions as borrowable collateral,” he noted.

The Base implementation awaits complete governance authorization. Aave’s protocol requires both an off-chain Snapshot poll and subsequent on-chain voting before the market achieves full operational status.

Coinbase introduced its tokenized stock suite to Base earlier this year. The initial August release featured four tokens, expanding to ten by September, all representing prominent U.S. technology corporations.

Separately, Aave announced plans for an institutional tokenized-asset market on Avalanche on September 16, where qualified entities would borrow Tether’s USA₮ against real-world asset tokens.

Technical analysis shows AAVE peaked at $150.14 intraday before consolidating near $147.41. The token maintains positioning above its Supertrend indicator at $117.29, facing overhead resistance at $155.43 and downside support at $134.56.
