Swiss National Bank Chairman Addresses Food Price Inflation Amid Summer Heat

Swiss National Bank (SNB) Chairman Martin Schlegel has commented on the impact of record summer heat on food prices in Switzerland. While the extreme weather has influenced food costs, Schlegel emphasized that it has not been a significant factor in the overall rise of inflation in the country.

The recent inflation increase in Switzerland is primarily linked to rising petroleum product prices, according to Schlegel. In light of this, the SNB has maintained its benchmark interest rate at 0% and anticipates a decline in inflation as oil prices stabilize.

Additionally, Schlegel noted that the recent depreciation of the Swiss franc should be viewed as a minor counter-trend, following a prolonged period of currency appreciation.
