Trump-Xi Summit Expected to Focus on Trade, Not Semiconductor Issues

The upcoming summit between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping is not expected to yield significant advancements in semiconductor and rare earth material negotiations, according to analysis from Jefferies, a global investment firm. Instead, the discussions are likely to center around establishing a U.S.-China Board of Trade, which aims to lower tariffs on select products.

Jefferies anticipates that the trade discussions could benefit sectors such as aerospace, specifically Boeing aircraft, as well as medical devices, agriculture, and energy. However, it is expected that strategically sensitive industries will remain excluded from any tariff reductions, indicating a cautious approach to trade relations between the two nations.
