U.S. Gulf of Mexico Halts 72% of Oil Production Amid Severe Weather

The U.S. Gulf of Mexico has experienced a significant disruption in energy production, with 71.5% of daily oil output and 58.8% of natural gas production shut in, as reported by the Marine Minerals Administration. This drastic reduction in output is primarily due to severe weather conditions affecting the region.

In response to the adverse weather, personnel have been evacuated from 129 offshore production platforms, which accounts for nearly 35% of the manned facilities in the Gulf. The shutdowns underscore the vulnerability of the U.S. energy supply chain to extreme weather events, raising concerns about potential impacts on energy prices and availability.

As the situation develops, industry stakeholders are closely monitoring the weather patterns and assessing the timeline for resuming operations in the affected areas.
