U.S. Industrial Production Increases by 0.7% in September

U.S. industrial production experienced a notable increase of 0.7% in September 2026, surpassing analysts' expectations of a 0.4% rise. This growth reflects a robust performance across various sectors, with manufacturing output remaining steady at 0.3%.

The utilities sector saw a significant boost, rising by 3.5%, while mining output increased by 0.2%. Excluding the automotive sector, industrial output rose by 0.9%.

Capacity utilization also improved, reaching 76.9%, slightly above the forecast of 76.5%. This uptick in industrial activity suggests a resilient economy, which may influence the Federal Reserve's cautious approach to managing inflation.
