USDCAD Experiences Volatility Amid Higher Inflation Data

The USDCAD currency pair has shown significant fluctuations this week, with buyers struggling to maintain momentum near recent highs. The pair reached a ceiling between 1.4292 and 1.4298 on October 5 and October 9, but failed to break through, with Monday's high at 1.4286 and Wednesday's rally stalling at 1.4298. Following these peaks, the price declined, closing below the 100- and 200-hour moving averages at approximately 1.4244, despite stronger-than-expected inflation data.

Recent economic indicators, including higher-than-expected Producer Price Index (PPI) data, have not reversed the downward trend. The USDCAD broke below a critical support range of 1.41922 to 1.4204, leading to further selling pressure. Today, the pair has entered a swing area between 1.41297 and 1.4153, which previously provided support from mid-June to mid-July and aligns with swing highs from November 2025.

The latest import and export price data highlighted ongoing inflationary pressures, particularly in energy and industrial supplies. Notably, fuel and lubricants saw a 34.5% increase, while natural gas prices surged by 96.5%. Despite these inflationary signals, the US dollar is currently experiencing a modest uptick as traders reassess their positions in light of the established technical support levels. The key question remains whether the USDCAD can hold above the lower boundary of 1.41297, which would allow buyers to attempt a recovery.
