Dollar Weakens as European Stocks Gain Amid Mixed Economic Signals

The U.S. dollar has shown signs of weakness as European stock markets experienced modest gains. The euro rose 0.3% against the dollar, reaching a one-week high of 1.1256, while the Australian dollar also gained 0.6% to 0.6960. In contrast, the dollar's performance against the Japanese yen remained stable near 158.00, and the Canadian dollar strengthened slightly, with USD/CAD down 0.3% to 1.4147.

In the bond market, 10-year Treasury yields increased by 2.5 basis points to 5.11%, although they are still on track for a second consecutive weekly decline, a trend not seen since June. This comes despite recent U.S. inflation data that exceeded expectations, allowing investors to take a breather from the recent selloff in bonds. The overall market sentiment remains relatively calm as participants digest the implications of the inflation figures.

European indices have continued their upward trajectory, with Germany's DAX rising 0.9% and France's CAC 40 up 0.3%. Both indices are positioned to achieve their fifth weekly gain in six weeks, although concerns over fiscal risks in France have tempered enthusiasm. Meanwhile, U.S. stock futures reflect a mixed outlook, with S&P 500 futures up 0.1% and Nasdaq futures down 0.2%, indicating ongoing challenges for technology shares.
