UBS Predicts Third Federal Reserve Rate Hike in March 2027

UBS has updated its forecast for the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest rate policy following higher-than-anticipated inflation data for September. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3.7% year-over-year, prompting the bank to adjust its expectations for future rate hikes.

The revised outlook now anticipates three rate increases: one in September 2026, another in December 2026, and a final hike in March 2027. After these adjustments, UBS expects the Federal Reserve to pause further increases until late 2027.

UBS noted that inflationary pressures are extending beyond energy sectors into a broader range of goods and services. Meanwhile, market participants are pricing in nearly five rate hikes, indicating a belief among investors that the Fed may adopt a more aggressive tightening stance.
