USDJPY Tests Key Technical Levels Amid Market Fluctuations

The USDJPY currency pair is currently testing significant technical resistance after rebounding from recent lows. Last week, the pair briefly fell below its 200-day moving average, which is currently positioned at 158.33. However, sellers were unable to maintain downward momentum, leading to a resurgence in buying interest around the swing level of 157.96.

As of now, the USDJPY is trading near 159.17, having surpassed the 100-hour moving average at 158.91. The focus is on the 200-hour moving average at 159.12, which, if breached, could solidify a bullish outlook for the pair. The next resistance levels to watch are the 50% retracement level at 159.60 and a swing area extending to approximately 159.75, with the 100-day moving average at 159.98 following closely behind.

The broader market context shows the dollar benefiting from a significant interest rate differential between the U.S. and Japan, alongside increased safe-haven demand due to heightened U.S. sanctions against Iran. Despite this, potential risks remain, particularly the possibility of official intervention in the currency market, as evidenced by a coordinated yen-buying operation conducted by the U.S. and Japan in late July.
