XRP Eyes Golden Cross Pattern as Price Surges 7% Amid Short Squeeze Rally
Key Highlights
- XRP price surged approximately 7% to reach $1.41 with spot trading volume hitting $1.36B within 24 hours
- Short liquidations totaling $8.05M occurred as Bitcoin climbed past $80,000
- Technical indicators show XRP approaching a golden cross formation, with the 50-day MA sitting just 2% beneath the 200-day MA
- Spot XRP ETF products in the United States have accumulated over $1.7B in total inflows
- Technical analyst Ali Charts projects a potential 35% price increase to $2 if XRP successfully breaks through $1.55
XRP price experienced a notable weekend rally of approximately 7%, pushing the asset to $1.41. Trading activity intensified significantly, with spot market volume reaching $1.36 billion during a 24-hour period, representing a roughly 90% single-day increase.

The upward momentum was largely driven by a short squeeze event. Approximately $8.05 million worth of short positions faced liquidation as Bitcoin reclaimed the $80,000 threshold, creating upward pressure across altcoin markets.
Long position holders experienced comparatively smaller losses of around $2.36 million. The broader cryptocurrency market witnessed approximately $300 million in combined liquidations as Bitcoin continued its advance past $81,000.
XRP futures trading volume reached $5.71 billion — exceeding spot volume by more than four times. When futures activity outweighs spot market volume to this degree, price rallies can quickly reverse if leveraged traders are forced to exit positions.
The weekend price action occurred without any significant fundamental catalysts. XRP had previously declined toward the $1.23–$1.30 range earlier in September following the unsuccessful 49-50 Senate vote on the CLARITY Act cloture motion.
Chart Patterns and Price Projections
Technical analyst Ali Charts (@alicharts) published a chart analysis indicating XRP may be developing an inverse head-and-shoulders formation on the daily timeframe. His analysis focuses on a potential move toward the neckline resistance around $1.55. According to his projection, a decisive breakout above this threshold could initiate a 35% rally targeting the $2 price level.
XRP is simultaneously approaching a golden cross technical pattern. The 50-day moving average currently trades approximately 2% below the 200-day moving average — representing the narrowest separation since August 2024.
Golden cross formations occur when the shorter-term 50-day MA crosses above the longer-term 200-day MA and are typically interpreted as bullish long-term indicators. Nevertheless, historical data shows all 16 of XRP’s prior golden crosses concluded within 12 months before reversing into death cross patterns.
Among the ten crosses that persisted long enough to generate meaningful price action, five produced gains ranging from 85% to over 1,000%.
Institutional Inflows, Large Holder Movements and Market Updates
United States spot XRP exchange-traded funds have accumulated more than $1.7 billion in cumulative inflows. This represents the most compelling evidence of institutional appetite in the current market environment.
Meanwhile, 1.6 billion XRP tokens moved into Binance from large holder wallets during the past 30 days, marking a six-month peak. CryptoQuant researchers suggested this activity might indicate portfolio rebalancing rather than selling pressure — though Binance reserves have climbed to a 69-day high.
Bitcoin’s market dominance declined below 59%, reaching a one-month low. Market participants have shifted capital toward alternative cryptocurrencies, with tokens including UNI, NEAR and ARB posting approximately 30% gains within 24 hours.
Ripple has integrated both XRP and RLUSD into the AI-powered payments infrastructure operated by Stripe and Tempo. The Moscow Exchange has announced plans to introduce XRP perpetual futures contracts on September 22.
Following the unsuccessful CLARITY Act vote, Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty commented: “Ripple and $XRP stand on settled ground.”
Critical price thresholds to monitor entering the new trading week include $1.45 and $1.50.
