Zcash Experiences Significant Decline Amid ETF Outflows and Geopolitical Tensions

Zcash has seen a decline of over 20% from its all-time high, driven by approximately $93.6 million in net outflows from Grayscale's ZCSH ETF during the week ending October 2. This marks the ETF's first negative week since late August. Analysts suggest that negative geopolitical developments and expectations of interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve may have contributed to these outflows, as much of the positive news surrounding Zcash has already been factored into its price.

On October 4, Zcash activated its NU7 upgrade on the public testnet, ahead of the anticipated October 6 date. This upgrade aims to reduce the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism along with new limits for shielded transactions. Developers are set to evaluate the results and make a final decision regarding mainnet activation on October 20, with a target date of November 5 for the full rollout.

Looking ahead, developments in U.S.-Iran relations are expected to be a key focus, as a breakthrough in negotiations could alleviate aggressive Fed rate hike expectations, potentially benefiting Zcash. Conversely, a prolonged stalemate or worsening geopolitical conditions may continue to negatively impact market sentiment and the broader cryptocurrency landscape.
