On September 21, 2026, the price of bitcoin rose above $84,000, and Ethereum surpassed $2,700. For both assets, these are the highest levels since January 2026.

Liquidations Hit $600 Million

Amid the crypto rally, futures market liquidations reached $746 million. They affected about 137,000 traders. Most liquidations were in short positions. In particular, around $647 million in shorts were liquidated, while more than $99 million came from longs.

The largest liquidation volumes were recorded in Bitcoin and Ethereum futures — $275 million and $122 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, the fear and greed index in the crypto market rose to 70 points, indicating “greed” among market participants.

Recall that earlier, Canadian entrepreneur, investor, and TV host Kevin O’Leary said that bitcoin could reach the $1 million mark if the crypto industry can address the potential threat posed by quantum computers.
