Bitmine Expands Ethereum Holdings to Nearly $15 Billion
Bitmine Immersion Technologies, a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BMNR, has significantly increased its Ethereum holdings by acquiring 28,086 tokens last week. This latest purchase brings the company's total Ethereum treasury to 5.93 million tokens, valued at approximately $15 billion based on current market prices. The total value of Bitmine's crypto and cash holdings now stands at $15.7 billion as of September 8, 2026.
Despite the recent acquisition, Ethereum has experienced a decline of 42% over the past year. Bitmine's aggressive accumulation of Ethereum during this downturn has raised questions about whether such buying activity will influence the price of ETH or primarily affect Bitmine's stock performance. Currently, BMNR shares are trading at $24.97, reflecting a 35.49% increase over the past month but still down 40.8% year-on-year.
Bitmine's strategy involves leveraging its treasury model, which allows the company to raise funds in public markets to purchase digital assets. This approach creates a leveraged exposure for shareholders to both the value of the treasury and the performance of Ethereum. The company also operates a mining facility in Silverton, Texas, and has launched a staking platform called MAVAN, which could potentially generate significant annual revenue from its Ethereum holdings. However, experts caution that Bitmine's purchases alone do not indicate a broader demand for Ethereum across the market, as the overall liquidity and capital flows remain critical factors influencing ETH's price.
