Bitwise’s BITB Sees Inflows Amid $261 Million Outflows from US Bitcoin ETFs

On October 14, US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced significant net outflows totaling $261.4 million, as reported by Farside Investors. This decline was primarily driven by major funds, with Fidelity’s FBTC leading the way with $152.7 million in redemptions, followed by BlackRock’s IBIT, which saw $110.9 million withdrawn. In contrast, Bitwise’s BITB managed to attract $2.2 million in inflows, making it one of the few funds to post a positive figure on that day.

The outflows from Bitcoin ETFs were not isolated, as spot Ethereum ETFs also faced a downturn, recording $130 million in net outflows. This trend indicates a broader retreat from cryptocurrency investments rather than issues specific to individual assets. The fluctuations in ETF flows are significant, as they can lead to actual selling pressure in the spot market when investors redeem shares and funds sell off holdings to meet those redemptions.

October has proven to be a volatile month for cryptocurrency ETFs, with dramatic shifts in investor sentiment. Earlier in the month, Bitcoin ETFs saw nearly $487 million withdrawn on October 7, followed by a recovery with $175.7 million in inflows on October 13. The rapid changes in fund flows highlight the unpredictable nature of the market, where substantial amounts can move in and out in short periods, reflecting investor sentiment and market conditions. Despite the recent outflows, the cumulative net inflows for US Bitcoin ETFs since their launch in January 2024 exceed $54 billion, indicating a robust long-term interest in these investment vehicles.
