BlackRock Research Highlights AI's Role in Shaping Digital Asset Market

BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager with approximately $150 billion in digital assets under management, has released a research paper outlining the potential impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the digital asset economy. The firm argues that as AI technology evolves, it will serve as a catalyst for the adoption of cryptocurrencies, particularly through the use of stablecoins, which are seen as a bridge between traditional finance and the emerging digital landscape.

The research identifies three phases in the evolution of AI: buildout, adoption, and transformation. Currently, the industry is in the buildout phase, focusing on the necessary infrastructure, including data centers and specialized chips. BlackRock estimates that by 2030, annual investments in AI infrastructure could exceed $700 billion, which would represent over 2% of the United States' GDP. This significant investment is expected to drive demand for efficient settlement mechanisms, with digital assets positioned to fulfill this need.

As of late November 2025, the stablecoin market cap had surpassed $250 billion. BlackRock emphasizes that as AI systems increasingly manage financial transactions and payments, the need for programmable money that operates at digital speed will grow. Stablecoins, which combine the stability of fiat currencies with the advantages of blockchain technology, are well-suited for this role. Furthermore, the report highlights that institutional interest is primarily focused on Bitcoin and Ether, while many other cryptocurrencies are viewed less favorably by investors.

The implications for Bitcoin miners are notable, as those adapting to become AI infrastructure providers may experience improved profit margins and more stable revenue streams. BlackRock's insights suggest that the integration of AI into various sectors could lead to a surge in transactions and micro-payments, further enhancing the demand for blockchain-based solutions. This evolving landscape presents both challenges and opportunities for stakeholders in the digital asset market.
