Bybit to Launch Super App in Europe with Regulated Derivatives and Tokenized Stocks

Cryptocurrency exchange Bybit is set to introduce a comprehensive 'super app' in Europe, which will feature regulated derivatives and tokenized stock services alongside its existing spot cryptocurrency trading. The initiative follows the company's acquisition of an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA) and an impending Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license, as confirmed by Bybit founder and CEO Ben Zhou.

The EMI license will enable users to open bank accounts and obtain International Bank Account Numbers (IBANs) for various financial transactions, including receiving salaries and paying utility bills. This functionality can be integrated with stablecoins and other crypto assets. The MiFID license will allow Bybit to offer regulated derivatives and access to products such as U.S. stocks, including major companies like Apple and Tesla, as well as contracts for difference and commodities like gold and silver.

Headquartered in Dubai, Bybit was established in 2018 and currently serves over 80 million users. The company previously secured a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license in Austria, which provides access to the broader European Union market. Zhou acknowledged the challenges of achieving profitability in Europe with only the MiCA license, especially given the intense competition from established financial applications like Revolut. Bybit will also continue its partnership with Kraken's xStocks to facilitate tokenized stock offerings.
