Copper CEO Resigns Amid Ongoing Sale Negotiations

Amar Kuchinad has resigned as CEO of Copper, a cryptocurrency custody company, as the firm continues its search for buyers. Kuchinad, who took on the role in October 2024 following the departure of founder Dmitry Tokarev, has a background that includes experience at Goldman Sachs and advisory work with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Copper has been actively seeking a buyer since May 2026 and has engaged Cantor Fitzgerald to facilitate the sale process. Initially, the company set a price of $500 million, but recent reports indicate that offers have come in around $200 million, significantly lower than Copper's peak valuation of over $2 billion.

In addition to the leadership change, Copper has recently appointed Elin Cherry as Chief Compliance Officer and Sean Bowen as Chief Operating Officer. As of now, neither Copper nor Kuchinad has provided comments regarding the resignation or the ongoing sale negotiations.
