DeepSeek, a Chinese investment firm, is set to invest in a startup founded by Yu Tao, the former head of the basic model for humanoid robots at ZhiJi Dynamics. This new venture focuses on integrating large language models (LLMs) with embodied intelligence. The startup's valuation has reportedly increased from 70 million USD in its first funding round to 200 million USD in the second round, with participation from DeepSeek and a prominent first-tier fund.
Yu Tao, who holds a PhD from the University of Science and Technology of China and has been a visiting scholar at the National University of Singapore, previously worked at Tencent AI Lab. There, he led the development of significant projects, including the full-body tracking system LimX WBT and a motion generation system. His expertise in AI and robotics positions him as a key player in the emerging field of embodied intelligence.
DeepSeek's founder, Liang Wenfeng, has been actively engaging with various entrepreneurs in the field, exploring potential investment strategies, including forming an independent team or investing in external startups. Earlier this year, DeepSeek made headlines by investing approximately 141 million CNY in Yushu Technology's IPO and is also reported to be leading an investment in Winverse AI, another robotics company founded by a former Tencent AI scientist.
