Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz Has Joined the NEAR Foundation Board
- Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz has joined the NEAR Foundation Council.
- He will focus on product and ecosystem strategy, as well as governance.
- The volume of transactions processed via NEAR Intents has surpassed $33 billion.
Mert Mumtaz, CEO of infrastructure company Helius, has joined the NEAR Foundation Council. The organization’s representatives announced the appointment.
NEAR Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the development of the NEAR Protocol ecosystem. Its council oversees the foundation’s activities and makes key strategic decisions.
In his new role, Mumtaz will help shape product strategy, drive ecosystem growth, and contribute to the organization’s governance. A particular focus will be placed on building private onchain markets and expanding cross-chain infrastructure.
In addition to Mumtaz, the council includes NEAR Protocol co-founder Ilya Polosukhin, Anchorage Digital co-founder Diogo Monica, former NEAR Foundation COO Chris Donovan, and NEAR One founder Bowen Wang.
Mumtaz will continue to lead Helius, which provides infrastructure solutions for the Solana blockchain. The company’s clients include Phantom, Jupiter, Coinbase, and Bitwise.
NEAR Foundation noted that the head of Helius was among the first to start using NEAR Intents in December 2024. He has since repeatedly advocated for improving interoperability between blockchains and enhancing transaction privacy.
According to the organization, the cumulative volume of transactions processed via NEAR Intents has surpassed $33 billion, and the value of assets in the privacy infrastructure has reached $160 million.
As a reminder, we previously reported that NEAR Protocol switched to Confidential by Default mode, which hides user balances, deposits, and transactions by default.
