Patrick Witt Resigns as Executive Director of White House Digital Assets Advisory Committee

Patrick Witt has announced his resignation as the Executive Director of the White House Presidential Digital Asset Advisory Committee to return to the private sector. His departure, made public last week, leaves the committee without a leader as the White House has yet to appoint a successor for the role overseeing cryptocurrency policy.

Witt's exit follows the departures of Harry Jung and Bo Hines from the committee, raising concerns about the continuity of policy development in the digital asset sector. Despite these personnel changes, White House officials have affirmed that cryptocurrency policy and the Digital Asset Market Clear Act will remain priorities for the Trump administration as the midterm elections approach next month.

As the administration continues to advance rule-making in the digital asset space, the new Congress, which will be sworn in in 2027, will require coordination from a White House liaison for cryptocurrency legislation. Tax legislation is expected to move forward before market structure reforms, and potential shifts in congressional control could introduce new dynamics to the legislative process. Meanwhile, regulatory efforts by agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Department of the Treasury are set to continue.
