Robinhood Chain Generates $50 Million in Transaction Fees, Dominates Uniswap Activity
Robinhood Chain, a Layer 2 blockchain network launched on July 1, 2026, has generated $50.2 million in transaction fees from September 1 to 23, capturing over 57% of Uniswap's total protocol revenue during that period. This surge in revenue was primarily driven by trading in memecoins, rather than the institutional focus that Robinhood initially targeted.
At its peak in early September, Robinhood Chain was generating approximately $8 million per day in transaction fees, which could have annualized to nearly $3 billion. However, this revenue stream saw a dramatic decline, with per-transaction fees dropping from around 64 cents to under 3 cents by mid-September, marking a 97% decrease. Despite this drop in fees, the volume of transactions remained robust, with weekly decentralized exchange (DEX) volumes on the chain holding steady at around $12 to $13 billion during peak activity periods.
The chain operates under a revenue-sharing agreement with Arbitrum, paying 10% of net revenue to the Orbit stack provider. Robinhood's decision to subsidize gas fees for eligible swaps until September 29 contributed to the high transaction volumes, raising questions about the sustainability of this model once the subsidies expire. The performance of Robinhood Chain may influence competition among other Layer 2 networks, highlighting the importance of distribution advantages in the current landscape.
